Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery

The thyroid gland is in the front part of the neck and makes thyroid hormone, which is important in your body’s metabolism. There are four parathyroid glands next to the thyroid and these help to control the body’s calcium levels. Thyroid disorders include overactive thyroid, underactive thyroid, thyroid nodules or masses, and thyroid cancer. Many patients with these conditions can be treated medically.

Our surgeons are well trained and experienced in thyroid and parathyroid surgery. The extent of surgery depends on the condition that is being treated. Sometimes only half of the thyroid is removed, while for cancer the entire thyroid gland may be removed. Our surgeons are experienced in using small incisions to minimize scarring. For parathyroid surgery we can often localize the one gland that is causing a problem and remove this with a very small incision.
